Beverly Gray

Beverly is the daughter of Helen Chadwick Gray and John Gray. Her mother was a well known figure at 'Vernon College', where Beverly commences her college education at the beginning of the first book of the series.

At Vernon College Beverly and her friends form a Sorority called the 'Alpha Deltas' and Beverly is nominated as their president. Beverly also joins the College Newspaper called “The Comet.,” as she decides on a career as a reporter.

After College, Beverly shares an apartment in New York City with three other "Alpha Delta" members as they all pursue their chosen careers.

Beverly Gray’s life reads like a modern day soap opera, full of mystery, romance, and climatic adventures.

During Beverly Gray’s drama filled life she encountered many natural disasters including earthquakes, blizzards, hurricane, landslide, sandstorm, whirlpool, an avalanche, forest fire, a flood, and a volcanic eruption.

When Beverly wasn’t battling the natural elements she had more than her fair share of human confrontations. Poor Beverly had a habit of getting herself locked up in a number of stories. Beverly was locked in a closet, a secret room, an attic, in a tunnel, vacant house, empty building, tower, lighthouse, and in a barn.

Beverly also has a knack of being held captive, whether it be by pirates, gypsies, cannibals, or a criminal.

Animals also held a strange attraction with Beverly having been attached or having a number of near escapes with the likes of a bear, a jaguar, lion, shark, tiger, wolf, dog, and a snake.

For Beverly these occurrences were all a part of life and she met each challenge head on with courage, determination and with her friends close by.

For the times in which the series was written Beverly was the epitome of the modern woman. She had a career as Reporter, traveled around the world with her friends to many exotic locations, got her pilots licence, has a fiance that was a secret service agent and aviator, and in the mix was a great sleuth.

Lenora Whitehill

Name: Lenora Whitehill
Features: Blonde Hair Colour, considered a little lazy and can put on weight. A sharp wit and good sense of humour.

Lenora Whitehill was the last of the inital Alpha Deltas to settle on a career choice. After a stint as a dress shop owner Lenora chose a career as a photographer and often accompanied Beverly on her investigations and stories to take photos for the Herald Tribune.

Lenora often has humurous verbal sparring competitions with good friend Lois Mason. Lenora also has a great sense of adventure and is often more ready for action than the main character Beverly is when a mystery comes along.

During the series Lenora was romantically linked to both Michael McKay and Terry Cartwright. Early in the series Lenora said she didn't know what love was indicating that she may not choose either suitor, later in the series when Terry is in town Lenora thinks "dreamily" of Michael. At the series end we are still left wondering who her future will be with.

Shirley Parker (Dale Arden)

Beverly’s first room mate at Vernon College is Shirley Parker, an aspiring actress from a rich, well to do family. At the start of the story the two girls do not get along. All changes as Beverly saves Shirley's life and the two become best friends. After college Shirley becomes a famous actress under the stage name of "Dale Arden."

Shirley is a generous girl who is loyal to her friends. Shirley inherits a large ranch during the series.

Anne White

At the start of the series Anne is introduced as Beverly’s best friend from her home town. Anne and Beverly start Vernon College together but are initially upset at not being able to be room mates. Anne is a member of Alpha Delta’s but her character becomes more a minor character despite being the only childhood friend of Beverly's to attend Vernon College.

After College Anne immediately gets married and Beverly compares her life of going after a career to Anne's (who has a comfortable small home of her own with her husband) It is this comparison that is used at times by Beverly to show that it is not the life that she wants for herself and that she is looking for excitment and adventure.

Lois Mason

At the start of the series Lois is introduced as the new room mate of Anne White at Vernon College. After college Lois moves to New York with Beverly and Lenora in the hope of selling her art work. Lois leaves the series for a while to after to study Art in Paris when she wins a year in Paris for winning an art competition. Lois returns later to take a job with a major magazine company.

Lois has a humourous verbal teasing relationship with good friend Lenora Whitehill.

Lois at times misinterprets Beverly's relationship with Jim Stanton and shows a jealous streak toward her girlfriend. Later in the series Lois becomes romantically involved with Jim Stanton.

After College Connie and Kathleen Ryan move into Beverly and Lenora’s New York apartment.
