The Famous Five TV Series

Episode 1 & 2. Five Go to Kirren Island.

As The Children's Film Foundation had the rights to the first Enid Blyton book the first double episode had to be created that introduced the audience to The Famous Five whilst still retaining the quality of the initial introductions in the book. It was decided to use the sixth book in the series "Five on Kirrin Island Again" mixed with features of the introduction of the main characters from "Five on a treasure island." Being the sixth book in the series, this was originally meant to be the last book in the series. Enid Blyton intended closing the book series on Kirrin Island like it began. This makes the book the perfect alternative to not being able to use Five on a Treasure Island as the first book as they share great similariites with the island and castle ruins wih dungeons.

The Famous Five

The child actors were well suited to their roles and instantly likable as well as familar as the fiction characters they were portraying. George was sulky and difficult to begin with whilst her cousins were fun loving, close knit and excited by the possibility of adventure.

The Famous Five

The storyline has Uncle Quentin living on Kirren Island whilst he works on his latest scietific research. Uncle Quentin has created a tower on the island and signals to his family daily to let them know he is okay. There are however people showing interest in what Uncle Quentin is doing on the island and The Famous Five have to go to Kirren Island to save him.
