WARNING THESE PICTURES CONTAIN BLOOD
The Japanese Death Style March is not to the liking of all wrestlers, some wrestlers don't consider it to be wrestling whilst other wrestlers like pushing themselves to new boundries and like to shock the viewers with the brutality of a barb wire match.
The following images are from a FMW match. FMW were a Japanese promotion that used both men and women and were known for their more hardcore tendencies than other promotions, even the women's matches often used foreign objects like farming sickles and fire.
JAPANESE BARB WIRE DEATH MATCH, MEGUMI KUDO VERSUS SHARK TSUCHIYA, DEC 22, 1995.
Megumi as the main face of FMW comes to the ring with the other faces as "seconds".Japanese wrestling differs from America style pro wrestling largely in this way. "Seconds" play a variety of roles, towel carrier, water and spray bottle carriers, body catchers in large moves to increase safety for the high flyer moves that go from the ring out to the floor and aid checks to see if the wrestlers are aright through out the match.
There is often a lot of build up and tension at the start of a death match as both wrestlers try and force their opponent onto the barb wire in order to take the advantage in the match.
When one of the wrestlers start to fall into the barb wire the drama increases. In this particular case the face (good) Megumi is the first to be forced into the barb wire. The barb wire often is used as a weapon itself and you will find one of the wrestlers trying to force their opponents face into the barb wire .
Japanese death style matches generally have barb wire and are assisted with gruesome looking foreign objects in this particular match a pole wrapped in barb wire and a farming sickle were use.
On other Death style matches between the pair of Megumi and Shark exploding barb wire was used for a more dramatic effect so that hen the wrestler fell on the barb wire sparks and smoke would go off.
On this particular occasion Megumi was victorious and after giving an emotional speech on the microphone stood center ring with her seconds. All the seconds are wrestlers as well and in this case they are the other faces (good guy) wrestlers.
