MadusaMicelli/aka alundra blayze

Name: Madusa Micelli Real Name: Often is listed as Debra Micelli, Madusa states it is really Debra Lewandowsky. Height: 178cm Weight: 70kg  DOB: 9/2/1964   Career Span: Pro Debut: 1987 until WCW's demise when Ted Turner sold the company to Vince Mc Mahon.  Promotions: mostly known for wrestling for AWA, WWF / WWE, WCW  Titles: AWA, IWA, WWF (WWE)  Highlights: Madusa was probably the most respected and popular woman's pro wrestler in America during the decade of the 1990s. Madusa was voted "Pro Wrestling Illustrated" Rookie of the Year when she started and was, the first woman ever to be honored with that award. Madusa began her wrestling career in 1987 in the Minnesota based American Wrestling Association. (AWA) Madusa captured the AWA Women's Title by defeating Candy Devine in December of 1987.  Madusa held the title until Nov. 1988 when she lost it to Wendi Richter.  After leaving the AWA Madusa signed on with All Japan Women's Wrestling and won the IWA World title. Competing in Japan was tough. Madusa wrestled as well as worked against Aja Kong in a bloody kickboxing match. Madusa had her nose broken several times in Japan, she worked hard and at the end of 1990, she was voted All-Japan Inspirational Wrestler of the Year.
Madusa through the early 90's worked for AJW and LPWA in America. Madusa also did some work for WCW in the early 90's but in 1993 the Madusa name was dropped to be reworked into the gimmick of Alundra Blayze for the WWF/WWE.

Madusa then in 1995 went back to the Madusa name for WCW for a few years. She is currently not involved with wrestling but still has a very public profile with her involvement with driving on the Monster Truck circuit. Madusa also has written an autobiography that should be out by the end of 2004.
Madusa has a great website where she also answers questions for fans and has collectable Madusa items for sale. The address is www.madusa.com

In reading Madusa's responses to her fans Madusa comes across very much like a woman that questions things a lot and demands a lot of herself and others.  Madusa in her comments appears to be a woman who was a critic of herself and others in order to try and create a top class product for the audience. In reading her frank answers you can gain a lot of insight into how she has managed to achieve so much.

The woman behind Madusa and Alundra Blayze has always had an amazing aura about her characters that is so rarely seen in the ring. Madusa through the 90's became the biggest name in wrestling for women in America. One of the most common questions still asked is if and when she will return to wrestling because her fans miss her. Presently however Madusa doesn't seem to be showing any signs of returning to wrestling.

Malia Hosaka Interview. 1) For those who may be unfamiliar with you, could you give us some background information about yourself?  I am from Honolulu, HI & was trained by Killer Kowalski, 1987.  2) What do you consider to be "UNIQUE" about yourself that differentiates you from other wrestlers? Everything about me is unique!  I am half Asian-half American & all heart when it comes to wrestling.  I was trained "old-school" & have had the fortune of working with the best the business, unlike what you see today I am the REAL deal!

3) Who do you consider to be the most influential people on your wrestling career? I have the following people to thank for helping me to grow in to the talent that I am today: Penelope Paradise, Luna Vachon, Lei Lani Kai, Judy Martin, and Debbie Combs; without these women I would not be half the wrestler I am today I must also thank Terry Taylor for giving opportunities and opening doors at both WCW and WWF. 4) What do you consider the greatest problems frustrations in the business for a female wrestler?  In today's world looks over talent... it doesn't matter how much talent you have if you are not the"cookie-cutter model" Vince and his people are infatuated with. 5) What would you see as being highlights in your career to date?  Staying in the business for going on 18 years from fan support, without the fans I wouldn't have had a career.  6) What advice would you give to any women wanting to get into the wrestling business? Not to, lol... No, I would simply say be ready for hard work, heartaches, disappointment... if you want to be wrestler then learn your craft and have fun doing it, if you want solely to go to the WWE then go home and allow talent to have their rightful place.

7) What type of training/conditioning do you do for wrestling? I train at the gym 5 days a week doing cardio and weights, and try to get in the ring at least once a month to keep fresh and learn new moves. 8) What do you consider to be the greatest advice you have received in the wrestling business and from whom? From Terry Funk, if this becomes a job and your are not having fun then get out because there is no reason to abuse my body the way we have to if I am not enjoying it.    9) If you were given the WWE women's division to run what changes would you make? Who would you bring in? And what direction would you lead it and why?   Fire everyone!!! LMAO, no I wouldn't fire Jazz or Trish, but I would bring back talent, girls who love the business, have respect for their veterans, and have great attitudes and can get along without egos.  I would start to build positive role-models and feature athletes that can compete with models in looks. 10) What do you consider to be the best and worst thing about being a wrestler? The best... the fans!  definitely the fans and I also love the travel and meeting new people The worst... the politics and business side of it all. 11) What was it like to be involved with WCW when the brought in the GAEA promotion to help create a women's division? As you featured in the new women's cruiserweight division Is there anything you would of liked to have see done differently? I would have liked to have seen it develop with American wrestlers, there are A LOT of talented girls here stateside without bringing in the Japanese girls. I also wish it would have been taken seriously, the fact that no American talent was considered shows that they had no interest in establishing a true women's division.

12) Have you noticed any major differences from wrestling as it was in the 1990s to now? Just the lack of respect that is evident by the rookies for their veterans, too many people are given breaks and opportunities based on who they know or who they are sleeping with rather than because they deserve the opportunity. 13) In you career who have you considered to be the wrestler who has been the most challenging or the toughest opponent? Myself, I am my own biggest critic and never feel that I take advantage of the opportunities that have been in my path.  I often do exactly what I am told and expected rather than speaking up with my ideas at opportune times. 14) What future goals have you set for yourself? I want to market my women's company and hope to leave the women who follow me a place to work and showcase their talent.
